Yahoo! & Bing gain more traffic

Google's tight grip on the internet search market has been loosened slightly – the latest figures from the market research company comScore have revealed that Yahoo! has increased its share of the US search engine market by 1% in April, while Microsoft's ‘decision engine', Bing, continues to rise for the 11th Month running.

Internet experts and analysts are now evaluating whether this rise is due to the recent search deal between the two companies or if its due to the new services released by both parties and the marketing campaigns undertaken.

"Both Yahoo! sites and Microsoft sites have experienced gains due in part to the introduction of new site navigation experiences that tie content and related search results together within several channels," a spokeperson from comScore explained.

"These features provide search results to users as they navigate through topical content."

Google's share of U.S. searches slipped to 64.4% percent last month, down from 65.1% in March, according to comScore.

Meanwhile, Yahoo's share rose to 17.7%, up from 16.9%, and Bing rose to 11.8%, up from 11.7%.

Those results are anything but trivial in the current search engine market, analysts say.

At the moment both Microsoft and Yahoo are working frantically behind closed doors to blend their internet services.

The roll out of ‘Bing-Hoo!' is expected later this year, but if it was launched today it would command a 30% market share.
